Layne Jones (left) and Jayden Reynaldo were killed in a fatal ATV accident in Balsam Grove Aug. 25. Reynaldo and Jones, both juniors, played on the Rosman Tigers varsity football team.
A Rosman woman was arrested Thursday in connection to an Aug. 25 ATV crash that took the lives of two Rosman High School football players.
Ashley Marie Darity, 34, of Rosman was arrested by the North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement agency and charged with two counts of felony involuntary manslaughter in connection with the incident after she allegedly provided the teenagers with alcohol, according to N.C. State Trooper Michael Owens and court records.
Layne Jones and Jayden Reynaldo, both junior football players at Rosman High School, were killed early in the morning of Aug. 25, 2024 when they crashed an ATV into a tree on Old Wagon Road in Balsam Grove.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol originally cited the reason for the crash as excessive speed and said no alcohol was involved, but new evidence suggests the two teenagers consumed alcohol in the time leading up to the incident, according to Owens. Owens said the two teenagers were attending a party on the road the night of the crash.
According to court records, Darity was released on a secured bond of $20,000 and is scheduled to have a disposition hearing Feb. 24.
